We met in college. We had so many of the same classes that we ended up working together on a bunch of projects. At that point we liked each other, but there was no romantic interest.
We sat next to each other at graduation and then basically said “See ya. Have a nice life”.
We never expected to see each other again.
A few months later we ended up working for the same company. You’d think maybe we’d get the point, but no, we didn’t start dating even then. Then one day something just clicked. We dated for another 3 years before getting married. We were married August 30th, 1997, so we’ve been married over 14 years now (yikes).
Being friends and coworkers before we started dating gave us a really strong foundation for our marriage. We had the opportunity to get to know each other and to develop respect for each other’s strengths and to learn how to compensate for each other’s weaknesses. Now it feels like we’ve been together forever … but in a good way.
