About Mike

I enjoy playing sports, mostly racquetball, tennis, and basketball when I can get enough people together.  I’m a big fan of Michigan football and of the Lions as well.  I’m  convinced one of these years the Lions are going to surprise us all with a winning season (Superbowl 2010 anyone?).  I read a lot, mostly science fiction.  I have a fairly embarrassing level of knowledge of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (seriously, ask me anything).  I also like hanging out with my friends and their families.  I’m fortunate to have several close friends that I’ve known since grade school who live nearby.

Mike Talks About Kathleen

Every day that I’m with Kathleen I consider myself blessed.  She is the most caring, loving person I know.  I am also constantly amazed by Kathleen’s ability to create things.  One time she made these elaborate Renaissance style costumes for a wedding that we were in.  Then she modified the pattern to make a costume for our dog, Toby, too, so we could all dress up for Halloween.

Kathleen is always coming up with culinary masterpieces as well.  She has a tendency to modify recipes on the fly, but it usually turns out really well (although there was a night or two we ended up with take-out instead).  When she sends her chocolates with me to share at work, word travels fast and I become the most popular guy in the office.

Kathleen also has a really good sense of direction, so it’s a good thing she’s in charge of planning our trips.  She’s like a human GPS.  I would be quite literally lost without her.

Mike’s Family

I was also lucky enough to grow up with a close and loving family.  I have one older sister and an older brother.  My parents and my sister, who is a pediatrician, each live just 15 minutes away.  My brother’s little girl was adopted as an infant several years ago so adoption is not a new thing for my family.  I doubt any child has been loved more.  She has been the center of the family since she arrived.  My parents love being Opa and Oma and can’t wait for more grandchildren to cherish.

Mike’s Career

My career has been in automotive engineering for 14 years.  I am an engineering supervisor in charge of designing the mirrors on vehicles.  It’s an exciting area to be in because the function of mirrors is changing from just being a reflective piece of glass to including other technologies like lighting, mirror defrost, and rear view cameras.  I’m also lucky enough that there is some flexibility in my job so that in an emergency it is possible for me to work from home.
